artist statement

"Can something that has no image come as an image?"

It is my inclination to answer this question with an affirmative "yes" that finds me painting. Time in my studio is spent with one foot in this world while the other travels across an invisible yet familiar terrain. A desire to render this world in personal, imagined imagery has drawn me away from observational painting, allowing me to mentally occupy a place that is more real to me than reality, and impose it visually and psychologically on the outside world.
